S.A.D. and the Holiday’s

Updated: Nov 3, 2022

Sooooo, the holidays are in full bloom.  Count down from Halloween to Thanksgiving followed by the BIG ONE Christmas and then beginning the start of the New Year!!!  Well, while we scuffle, and run around with our lists of  TO DO’s and Wishes, we should STOP for a minute. Think of the season and the real meaning of spreading holiday cheer. Some of us get so self consume that we tend to overlook others that are suffering silently with S.A.D. better known as Winter blues or the transitioning from the hot fun of summer. You know when the days are long with lots of sun, blue skies, birds, seeing people out and about, and outdoor activities.  Now the days become dark, cloudy with gloom and lack of outside movement..the stillness!! It can be overwhelming to some.

For some succumbing to the halt can be paralyzing, and depressing and energy is zapped. The mere task of getting out of bed can be difficult and sleep is nowhere to be found or maybe that’s all we want to do. Being transparent to open up may be tainted as being vulnerable because remember we need to feel safe to open up about our feelings to anyone. Sometimes we fear that we will be judged or frowned upon as abnormal. Letting down our walls may be just an ear away but trust is an issue. Who, what, and how much we share needs to be determined or carefully examined.  Conversations can be uncomfortable causing you to expose your deepest and darkest secrets. Just in hopes, someone cares. Maybe not have to remedy to fix but be still enough to let all the toxicity or is it toxic?  It’s something with no name just pain or maybe found memories that need to be unleashed and not discriminated against because it’s your personal view.

So I implore you, while thinking of your favorite things to do this season of giving, that is what it is about. Give more of yourself to listen give a hug, make a cal NOT TEXT but verbally communicate with loved ones and friends. Visit a hospital, sick and shut-in. Do a task for someone, pick up something and donate, volunteer, or read a book to a child, SMILES  are great not to mention a simple I LOVE YOU!!! This all goes a long way and just letting someone know that you are thinking about them will bring cheer to that certain someone who may feel forgotten, left out, or in so much pain that despair is what they face daily!!! You care, I know that you do and now you need to apply that throughout the universe!!! In this chaotic world camaraderie is the additive needed.

Remember S.A.D. is when the lack of sun causes people to become depressed. But remember some darkness is caused by the loss of a job, the loss of loved ones, medical issues, and relationship issues. Sometimes it can be the person closest to you, right in your own home or immediate family or closest relative but being so busy we don’t see it because we are not present!!!  Some of us are into our reality show checklist, or conversations are limited or interrupted by cellphones, can you put the darn phone down for a minute or a couple of hours, some of us eat meals in complete silence or tend to go to different rooms of the house. When was the last time you all sat down together to break bread?  So, be it physical, emotional, spiritual, or financial, darkness doesn’t have to be due to the lack of direct SUN…darkness can be the feeling of being alone, unable to communicate the feeling, sure we suggest reading the Bible, Yoga, listening to calming music or dance to some music, clean up while music was playing,  karaoke is great, exercise getting out of the house, catch up with family and or some old friends for food, fun and libations, long drives, vacation,  therapy and or counseling but a lot of people rather be private and suppress it.  The fact is, it does exist and we need to live not to exist!!!  We all can play a part in healing by offering to be the sunshine in other people's lives.

Jesus would love to see a world of people caring and loving each other. That’s what spreading the holiday cheer is about!!!!  Until next time…I LOVE YOU!!!
