Awwww Memorial day! The first day to mark summertime is finally here, water parks open, pools, and beaches. The sand between our toes, the sounds of music playing in cars, spending more time outdoors and visiting friends both old and excitement of meeting new ones. Wow, old friends, school either high school or college buddies. Gathering with family, going on picnics and or family reunions, looking at old pictures, and listening to old stories from the elders. Can’t taste your aunt’s favorite dish, uncle's favorite ribs, hot dogs, chicken or hamburger, or that sweet tea/lemonade, “half n half”. Listening to the old music while they tell you of the dance that went with that song. How I love the essence of the old days, reminiscing about our family heritage.
I pray all enjoyed their first holiday of the summer, even if you did absolutely nothing but RELAXED!!! You deserve it and I applaud you for standing your ground to take care of yourself. Making you the priority. Well, I was sad to hear of the passing of Maya Angelou on5/the 28th. She will be MISSED!!!!!! Love, Love, Love me some Maya!!! I often sit to read Maya along with listening to Nina Simone. I’m glad that I lived in a time when I knew of her presence and not just to read about her in our history books as we often have to do. Just like Maya, each n of you has a person, may it be family or friend, that you hold fond memories of. If they are alive, give them a call, send a card, go visit, do brunch, lunch, or dinner….please do something!!!! Don’t let it be too late, time waits for no one. I was reading this scripture and I’ll leave you with it along with some of my favorite poems by Maya Angelou. If care to, please send your favorite poems as well. Until the next time, God Bless, and may HIS peace be with you!!!! Ecclesiastes 4:12″
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.” — from 1978’s “Still I Rise
Pretty women ask where my beauty lie’s……………..I’m a woman phenomenally, PHENOMENAL WOMAN THAT’s ME”.
Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.
When someone shows you who they really are, believe them the first time
Never make someone a priority when all you are is an option.
Sometimes we are only given a few minutes to be with the one we love and thousand hours to spend thinking of them.
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave me, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I RISE, I RISE, I RISE!!!!
Maya Angelou April 4, 1928- May 28, 2014…. I Salute you….RIP
